Background
The AXA UK Group Strategy and M&A Team, reporting directly in to the Group CFO, are responsible for ensuing there is a clear overarching strategy for AXA in the UK and support the operating companies to develop robust strategies for their markets. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the AXA UK Group Strategy Team as a Strategy Manager. This job represents a career opportunity with genuine scope for personal development and progression. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to work within the UK holding company on a range of strategic projects with a particular focus on market development opportunities, plus gain exposure to the annual strategic planning process and become involved in merger & acquisition activities. Consequently, the scope of the Strategy Manager role offers a wide variety of responsibilities in support of the development of strategy, the delivery of the AXA UK Strategic Plan and working on key strategic opportunities as required.
The role
Operating at a pure strategic level you will be working very closely with AXA Paris, AXA UK & OpCo strategic teams to influence thinking at ExCom (CEO) level across all the entities you have relationships with. Within the role you will act as a focal point for strategy alignment between the AXA Group, the AXA UK Group and the various operating companies - primarily, your focus will be on ensuring that any strategic proposals are articulated in such a way that they fit with the broader Group strategies but also that they support the development of the UK operations. The will also be scope to support the Group's M&A activities. You will interact fully with the Group Strategy team in Paris providing insight in to the UK insurance market, identifying strategic opportunities for growth, and respond to strategic questions from the shareholder. This will entail the creation of highly detailed and structured strategy papers which act as reference documents for strategic decision making within the Group. In essence, this is a highly complex role involving interaction with senior level colleagues at all points of the process and influencing them to ensure achievable strategic goals are delivered to AXA Group in Paris .
Skills, knowledge and behaviour
Your expertise and knowledge within the broader insurance market will be second to none with specific experience in the P&C market desirable. As a first class communicator, both written and oral, you will have a broad range of facilitation tools and a highly analytical mindset to ensure you are able to influence at the most senior levels within the AXA business. To be successful in this role you will need a professionally consultative approach, be familiar with strategic frameworks and have a real insight in to the politics of working with or in a global, matrix-lead organisation where your market knowledge will lend itself to enhance your natural credibility. An understanding of insurance accounting and economics, and experience at modelling in excel would be desirable. Essentially, you will be able to demonstrate a real customer-centric approach to devising strategy and be comfortable dealing with tight deadlines which are often dictated by external parties and legislation - and as such can not be moved.
