Based in our London Branch, we are seeking a highly motivated and target driven New Business Underwriter to join a fully empowered and technically excellent team. You will need to use your proven trading skills to build relationships with a select panel of brokers to maximise income and achieve profitable growth in line with company and Branch objectives. Conducting offsite surgeries in accordance with Broker panel requirements as well as training and coaching colleagues will also be a key part of the role to ensure that underwriting and service standards are achieved. The role Key tasks are to; - Underwrite new business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practice at and away from the base location.
- Proactively develop and maintain business relationships with intermediaries to actively encourage generation of profitable commercial business.
- Assist in Financial and Business planning by underwriting analysis and forecasting and action planning to achieve Branch KPI's. Focus on knowing the performance of panel and communicate to management to enable contributions to panel review debates.
- Proactively develop a prospect list of appropriate new business opportunities and ensure that pipeline is managed and followed through.
- Liaise with team and other internal stakeholders as appropriate to ensure that broker targets are achieved.
- Conduct off site broker visits at a frequency that enables Branch and personal financial KPIs to be achieved.
- Promote AXA and its products in support of company strategy and key differentiators.
- Produce timely and accurate documentation.
- Provide a reference point and training for technical underwriting and product knowledge within the branch.
- Assist and coach external customers and colleagues with technical and procedural aspects of underwriting, as required.
- Be responsible for underwriting control, compliance and audit.
- Provide underwriting support to Account Managers as required.
Skills, knowledge and behaviour - 'A' Level or equivalent education.
- Progress towards ACII/Qualified ACII desirable.
- Previous experience in Commercial underwriting essential.
- Technical product knowledge for Property and Casualty classes.
- Good knowledge and understanding of the commercial insurance market.
- Ability to identify and convert business opportunities.
- Experience of managing intermediary performance using available MI/business tools and drawing up action plans highly desirable.
