Divisional Overview:

The Non-Core Division manages in excess of £250 billion of assets (plus £73 billion of derivatives) across a mixture of business units, products, geographic locations and customer relationships- The effective management of these assets is a core part of the bank's strategy of stand alone strength regardless of the fact they are not core to RBS long term portfolio-

The Asset Protection Scheme (APS) is a key part of the UK government's measures to restore stability and confidence in the banking sector and increase the capacity of banks to lend- The APS is open to all UK-regulated banks and RBS Group has announced its intention to participate- Entering into the APS will allow RBS to enhance its financial strength and to provide improved stability for customers- 

Roles within the combined Non-Core and APS division are very high profile as success is essential in ensuring the financial stability of RBS Group-

Purpose of the role:

The role is responsible for developing MI and ensuring it supports measurement/development of performance in support of the overall Non-Core strategy-
  • To support the Corporate & Other Structured Assets Decision Support area of the Non Core Division in the development of an MI pack which consolidates the performance across Corporate & Other Structured Assets this includes Asset Management, Non-Core Portfolio Assets, Financial Structuring Group and Export Finance;
  • The role closely supports business planning and participation analysis decisions by the individual Business Heads within each segment of Corporate & Other Structured Assets , determines their requirements and enhances reporting to meet them-

Scope of Role:

  • To participate fully in the Corporate & Other Structured Assets Decision Support area of the Non Core Division producing insightful financial analysis and reporting on the performance of the business;
  • The role closely supports business planning and participation analysis decisions by the Corporate & Other Structured Assets Business Head, determines their requirements and enhances reporting to meet them-


    Responsibilities
    • Work with the wider Non-Core Decision Support team to ensure that all MI developed is supportive of measure of business performance / development relative to overall Non-Core Strategy;
    • Produce and analyse consolidated financial information for Corporate & Other Structured Assets such as actual capital usage/balance sheet & P&L information across Corporate & Other Structured Assets in order to support the Head of Business and individual Business segment leads in shaping business strategy;
    • Develop the analysis of key drivers and production of regular commentary on these, including 'key performance indicator' analysis to facilitate the rapid reduction in utilisation of scarce resources e-g- RWA / TPA;
    • Support the divisions and central modelling team in budgeting & forecasting;
    • Provide briefings/analysis for Heads of Business on key issues, trends, metrics and variances within regular actual/forecast numbers;
    • Understand / monitor the key risk positions within the divisional balance sheet, including valuation issues, funding risks, IRR in the banking book, FX positions, risk concentrations, provisions etc- Through this understanding highlight potential future impacts within the P&L during the business wind down / disposal period;
    • Support the business in developing effective divestment / exit strategies in order to preserve shareholder value;
    • Support the business in developing restructuring opportunities e-g- securitisations;
    • Network widely across the support functions attaching to the Non Core Banking Businesses, acting as a Finance consolidation point for Business Intelligence

    Deliverables:

    • Participate in building a decision support team to support the Business Heads within Corporate & Other Structured Assets , ensuring that all financial data and analysis is provided to support decision making;
    • Oversee the production of the monthly pack for the Business covering summary revenues, RWA's in aggregate and by business, balance sheet utilisation, FTE information, costs in aggregate and by business and other ad hoc information as required;
    • Monthly Client reporting suites covering Non Core assets;
    • Month end reporting for Non Core assets - both produce sizeable packs- as well as dealing with revenue recognition/ pipeline issues;
    • Combined RBS/ ABN MI across all areas and Summary packs/ MI for the Level 2 areas in Non Core;
    • Detailed analysis monthly and as required on costs-

    Staff Development & Management:

    • Assist management in the building of a cohesive Decision Support team across the Business;
    • Support and participate collaboratively within the wider Decision Support team showing leadership where necessary;
    • Drive own development and contribute to that of peers;
    • Ensure business has effective structure and resources;
    • Ensure effective communication with leadership, management and peers-
    Financial Management:  
    • Direct development of financial analysis, review and control projects


      The Individual
      Experience   Essential:
      • Previous experience within a Credit product environment;
      • Previous experience in a decision support/ MI area gained either at ABN/ RBS or elsewhere with experience supporting a revenue earning business;
      • Previous experience should include exposure to business planning, budgeting and forecasting process and leading agreement with Global Business Heads;
      • In previous roles, incumbent should have been exposed to senior management with the ability to operate comfortably at that level, presenting and clearly articulating complex data
      Desirable:
      • Experience of working to multiple deadlines;
      • Some product control working experience/ or general exposure to products;
      • Experience working in a matrix business environment with different revenue and cost reporting dimensions e-g- by product, by geography and by client;
      • Exposure to the main approaches to cost allocations, particularly for indirect costs-

      Qualifications

      Essential:
      • Qualified Accountant;
      • Degree qualification-
      Desirable:
      • Association of Treasury qualification-
      Technical Competence   Essential:
      • A sound knowledge of the main drivers affecting general business performance- revenues, costs, Capital and balance sheet usage;
      • Knowledge of the main drivers to assess business performance and the ability to apply them to different business-
      Desirable:
      • Experience in developing and implementing business strategy - including overall business plans and vision, forecasting and budgeting;
      • A sound knowledge of accounting principles and developments-
