Job Description The Interaction Design team provides design and prototyping services to key Transformation projects in UK Retail- Through the development and visualisation of interfaces for staff and customer facing applications we help project teams: - Explore and refine business requirements
- Engage more effectively with key stakeholders
- Facilitate early and regular usability testing
- Communicate designs to technology partners, testing teams and other colleagues
- Apply design standards and good practice in UI development
Purpose of the role - Improving and streamlining the interaction betweens users and computer systems-
- Creating the best possible user experience within the constraints of individual projects
- Driving interaction designs from concepts through to prototyping using a variety of methods and tools
- Responsible for delivering allocated/agreed tasks within timescales such as user research/analysis and interaction designs
- Staying informed on current trends in technology and design and ensuring colleagues are made aware of these
Requirements Role Requirements - Good technical and practical understanding of web related technologies, web design standards and user interface design
- Strong information design skills, with the ability to quickly analyse design challenges and habitually produce solutions in an efficient manner
- A passion for delivering high quality user experiences that are based on an understanding of the needs and context of various user groups-
- Ability to work on multiple workstreams (e-g- projects, tasks)
- Some background in or understanding of HCI (Human Computer Interaction)
- Strong comprehension and understanding of user behaviour and how it relates to interface design together with of the role of usability in software design-
Technical Knowledge Exposure to or practical experience of user interface design and/or prototype development - direct experience preferred Demonstrable experience with most of the following: Technologies - Web related technologies (HTML, CSS, client-side JavaScript, Java Libraries e-g- jQuery)-
Software - Adobe Photoshop or equivalent;
- Axure RP Pro (or other similar prototyping tool);
- Dreamweaver, Aptana or other HTML editors
Principles - Accessibility e-g- WCAG 2-0;
- Usability;
- General business analysis techniques;
- User Centred Design-
Optional (not essential but preferred): - Information Architecture principles;
- Usability and/or accessibility testing;
- Graphic and communication design
Responsibilities Deliverables - Design, construct/modify and test highly intuitive and attractive interface design proposals
- Ensure design proposals are delivered using appropriate processes, standards and guidelines (e-g- branding, accessibility (WAI), technical)-
- Apply best practice in interface development and act as reference point for related day to day information requests-
- Ensure different interface proposals meet the needs of the user base, are consistent in their interaction models and reuse existing patterns or methods where appropriate
- Actively discourage either/or thinking between business and customer needs
- Build effective working relationships with clients and/or other colleagues
- Communicate design concepts and the evolution of design ideas clearly, consistently and effectively to groups of varying size and level using a variety of methods (visually and verbally)
- Manage own milestones, deadlines and scheduling for assigned projects or deliverables
