The High Performance Computing (HPC) team provides services to the application development teams at RBS across all business and technology functions- This team is responsible for the "end to end" HPC service including Operations, Engineering & Architecture to support the overall Application and Infrastructure architecture blueprint in the provision of global services to support business and application requirements- 

The candidate will be working within the HPC team in an Engineering Role, reporting to the HPC Engineering Lead- They will be focused on the delivery of the underlying technology platforms and the development of the tools necessary to manage and operate them efficiently and reliably-


    Requirements
    Essential Experience:   ·          Strong general and current technology knowledge in particular with respect to HPC technology deployment in Investment Banking or similarly demanding users

    ·          Experience of working within a complex global organisations and maintaining relationships with overseas team members

    Experience of working in a technical services organisation, including global/intercontinental teams   Desirable Experience:   ·          Understanding of Investment Banking industry and the role of technology within it    

     

    Technical Competence: What are the specific skills, knowledge and abilities required of the job /role?

    Desirable:

    ·          Extensive experience of HPC technologies such as Grid Server, Coherence or similar

    ·          Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and developments in the HPC environment

    ·          Excellent communicator at team and individual level

    ·          Stamina and determination, a drive to improve things and does not give up easily

    ·          Extensive experience of either Java or C# development

    ·          Work both individually and in a team

    ·          Self starter who does not require close supervision

    ·          Good communicator able to explain complex technical issues to other technologists

    ·          Experience of working in technology supporting one (or more) Investment Banking business area


      Responsibilities
       

      Activities: What does the jobholder have to do?

      ·          Undertake engineering on core HPC platform technologies (DataSynapse Grid Server, Fabric Server, Federator and Oracle Coherence) as required delivering stable enterprise quality platforms to the HPC user community-

      ·          Engineer technical components to the agreed scope, on time and budget- Ensure that components satisfy all technical and quality criteria-

      ·          Provide 3 rd line operational support to application development teams in the event of major incidents or complex technical issues

      ·          Establish good relationships with HPC end user community-

      ·          Maintain product knowledge and engage vendors on technical issues-

      ·          Maintaining high quality technology knowledge in the HPC area in general-

      Deliverables: What are the key outcomes and what does the jobholder have to produce (objectives)?

      ·          Engineering of HPC core technologies to meet the needs of the HPC Operations to support GBM businesses globally

      ·          Development and support of tools necessary to deploy, operate and manage HPC core technologies

      ·          Architectural services to application development teams on the best practice for implementation of HPC technologies

      ·          Improved efficiencies and synergies delivered through optimising  technology deployment in the HPC arena

      Scope of Role: W hat decisions is the job/role responsible for?

      ·          Input into technology roadmaps and plans within the context of the overall HPC strategy

      ·          Manage relationships with HPC Operations and diverse end user community

      ·          Develop relationships to support evolution of services and ensure that end user requirements are understood and satisfied

      ·          Ensure that regional requirements are taken into account in the definition and implementation of all HPC technologies
