Job Description The key purpose of this role is to work with the CEO and Board of CBD, and its senior leadership team, to define the strategic direction of the CBD business, initiating and developing initiatives to achieve the strategy and overseeing and tracking their delivery- - Provide the CEO and Board of CBD with analytical support for strategic decisions through the provision of options and recommendations and potential solutions to key issues and changes faced by the business
- Design and oversee the implementation of pan-CBD strategic initiatives
- Consult with stakeholders across the RBS Group to win support for recommendations and decisions taken
- Provide the interface with Group Strategy
- Write briefs on major CBD issues for the CEO to use at GEMC and other Group-level bodies
- Provide (for the CEO) a challenge function to the CBD business units, including undertaking full strategic reviews of entire business units
- Act as troubleshooter for CEO on major business issues
- Scan the environment to identify opportunities and threats to CBD from both traditional and non-traditional competitors, in order to create a world class strategic vision- This includes providing high level competitor and customer analysis to the CBD Board as the fact base for strategic decisions
- Provide the interface with the leadership of other parts of RBS Group on all strategic issues both emerging and long running
- Support the CEO in presentations to external and internal audiences, including: Results presentations, Conferences, Analysis, Rating Agency and Government presentations
- Construct business cases for acquisitions and disposals, and manage the process in liaison with Group Strategy and Group Corporate Finance
- Provide co-ordination of the overall strategy capability in CBD including the strategy teams in the businesses-
Responsibilities The successful candidate will be required to: - Design and obtain stakeholder approval for strategic change
- Oversee the implementation of strategic actions approved by the CBD Board
- Develop strategic initiatives and initiate action before handing over to Change Management for delivery
- Produce strategy related papers, presentations and other material for CBD Board meetings and conferences, liaising with other areas as required- Provide similar support to the Chief Executive, CBD for Group level meetings and events
- Continually maintain awareness of market movements outside the Bank to identify opportunities or threats to CBD from both traditional and non-traditional competitors
- Input of priorities to the CBD Investment Steering Committee, ensuring that the projects that are initiated continue to deliver against, and support the achievement of, the overall CBD strategic direction
The Individual The following experience is relevant for the role: - Track record of sound business judgement gained from a global financial services company or consultancy
- Experience of running a senior team with complex deliverables
- Experience of corporate banking products and the issues affecting banks in the UK today
- Exposure to a wide portfolio of products and issues and the complex regulatory agenda affecting CBD
- Proven track record of defining and delivering complex financial service strategies
- Significant experience of working within an environment of changing priorities and tight deadlines
- Experience of presenting at and working with Executives at a CBD Board level (or equivalent)
- Strong academic background
In addition, the person in this role will need to possess superior partnering skills- He/she will be expected to interact on a daily basis with the CBD Board and Leadership Team, along with Business Heads in key product areas, and with the Senior Leadership Team in Group- Additionally the role will involve: - Direct line management responsibility for a team of c 5 people
- Oversight of other strategy teams in the business units
- BAU responsibility for department budget
