A new and exciting role has arisen for a Researcher to join our Research and Briefing team within Group Comms-
Job Description The purpose of the Research & Briefing Team is to produce high quality communication content, insight and planning capability to support the RBS Group's communication activity with all stakeholders but primarily - staff, the media, politicians and customers- The content and insight is designed to build understanding, inform thinking, support message development and promote message discipline- The planning capability is designed to co-ordinate complex communication events of Group level significance- We do this by pursuing proactive projects and managing a rapid rebuttal unit- We work as partners with various internal teams, principally Media Relations, Internal Communications and Public Affairs teams- We also work closely with functional and customer facing subject experts across the Group to act a bridge between them and the communication teams- In this role you will two main responsibilities: · Communications briefings- To provide research, analysis and briefings (with an emphasis on the financial restructuring aspects of the Strategic Plan) to support Group Communications business as usual activity- · Opinion research- To support the analysis and delivery of a programme of activity to provide insight and analysis on the corporate reputation of RBS- Deliverables Communications briefings: To provide briefing papers (drawing on research and analysis usually involving other parts of the business) on issues relating to the financial restructuring of the Group- The purpose of the briefing is to enhance understanding and support the Media Relations, Public Affairs and Employee Communications teams- The subject of briefings is diverse and covers a range of banking related issues including lending, regulation, asset sales and capital requirements- The ability to quickly understand complex issues and explain clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience is essential- The research and briefing activity will be split between reactive (dealing with issues as they brea k) and proactive (supporting campaigns designed to improve our reputation)- It will involve extensive liaison with customer facing businesses, control functions and other support functions- Opinion research: - Support the delivery of bi-monthly reputation tracking reporting with a focus on actionable insight-
- Support the management, delivery and reporting of ongoing reputation research including a bi-monthly staff survey, media content evaluation, reputation benchmarking and opinion tracking-
- Ensure constant awareness of perceptions of RBS our competitors and the wider banking sector
through accessing and sharing additional research insight- - Support the development of a consistent methodology to asses the effectiveness of our communication campaigns-
The Individual - Educated to degree level, or with equivalent professional experience, preferably with a quantitative element, ideally in finance, accounting or economics-
- Familiar with financial statements as well as financial and/or economic data- Highly numerate-
- Delivery of research and briefings in written and presentation form-
- Experience with basic statistical analysis- This includes primary research techniques - sampling, survey design - and also primary/secondary data interpretation and analysis-
- Experience of and / or understanding of the Group and the Strategic Plan-
- High level of self-motivation, enthusiasm and creativity-
- Ability to meet tight deadlines, at short notice, with high-quality outputs-
- Flexible approach to changing project deadlines and prioritisation-
- Rigorous approach and strong focus upon attention to detail-
- Pragmatic approach in support of commercial objectives-
- Customer focus and ability to leverage networks-
- Team player and willingness to contribute to change in the way we work-
Technical Experience: - Understanding of basic financial and statistical analysis techniques and accounting -
- Excellent Excel and PowerPoint skills-
- Excellent data gathering and analytical skills-
- Good communications skills (written and oral)-
