Job Description
Background

AXA Insurance is developing a new IT system to support Commercial Insurance policy processing.  The new system (AXIS) will ultimately replace ABR & I90.  The AXIS solution deploys a number of new technologies: the Duck Creek Example platform, Software AG's WebMethods Enterprise Service Bus and HP Exstream Document system are 3 examples.

The development is predominately located in Bolton with the co-location of Business, BSD and supplier resources, working closely together in the design, build, test and delivery of the system components.  We are currently recruiting for 3 developers to join this team.

The AXIS system, based on the Duck Creek Example platform, is configured to meet AXA's requirements via a tool called Author®.  Successful candidates will be given full training to allow them to join the AXIS development team, to initially work alongside Duck Creek developers before been assigned to specific AXA controlled development work - the intention is to transition some of the AXIS system development activities to AXA over the coming months.  The business specific requirements are 'configured' using Author.  The configuration tool generates XML statements.

The future vision for AXA Commercial is the creation of a business environment that is truly Agile, able to rapidly adapt to changing market conditions.  AXIS, supported by flexible processes and the rapid development or enhancement of commercial insurance products, is the foundation for this business agility, with a single combined IT and business team at the heart of AXIS support.

    The role

Typical activities required to support AXIS are:

    • Create and update complex XML documents in a visual environment using Duck Creeks EXAMPLE Author tool. These documents include configuration for the following:
      • Rating algorithms.
      • Underwriting and business rules.
      • Table creation and maintenance requiring detailed data entry.
      • Product pages implementing workflow rules.
      • Forms creation and maintenance.
    • Work collaboratively in a team environment for the building and updating of XML documents according to customer specifications.
    • Unit/system testing & debugging.
    • Web services integration to third party solutions such as post-code (look up) software, agency database (ALS) and the Motor Insurers Database (MID) - these are just some of the examples of systems AXIS links to.
    • Creating and manipulating XML output to create customized screens (skins) for both demonstration/end customer use.
    • Taking an Agile MoSCoW approach to the role requirements.

      Skills, knowledge and behaviour
      • High degree of honesty and integrity.
      • Able to work as part of a small dynamic multi-disciplined team.
      • Embraces new ideas and approaches - looks for ways to break the mold of how things have been done before.
      • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written - the working environment will be very much "show and tell" rather than a heavy reliance on heavyweight documentation.
      • Commercial insurance experience, preferably in the underwriting and rating area.
      • Experience in HTML, ASP, XML, server-side and client-side script for browsers, web services.
      • Programming in .NET (preferably in C#) or similar experience, i.e. Java.
      • Experience with database systems, SQL language and database design and administration.
      • Familiar with "Iterative" and "AGILE" development methodologies.
      • A bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related area is preferred.  Equivalent experience will be considered.
