Job Description FI Debt Capital Markets FI Debt Capital Markets (FIDCM) is a key strategic business within the wider GBM Division of RBS and forms part of the Global Banking Business- FIDCM provides Core Financial Institution clients in each region with the full product range of secured and unsecured debt capital markets and financing products and consists of the following businesses- . FI Debt Capital Markets (FIDCM) - including FI Structured Finance and Principal and Distressed Capital businesses . Conduits - including Conduit Origination and Portfolio . FI Origination (Bond Origination business) . Real Estate Advisory and Client Solutions Group (new core advisory businesses)
The role is to be a Financial Controller for the FIDCM assets which have been insured via the Government Asset Protection Scheme (APS)- The role also involves meeting the wider reporting requirements for the APS scheme, such as monthly reporting and analysis to the Treasury's advisors-
The role is high profile in nature and involves extensive interaction both within the team and the wider Global Finance community as well as the Front Office and Credit Risk- The role will enable the individual to gain a broad understanding of the assets across the FIDCM business, an understanding of the Asset Protection scheme as well as providing an opportunity for developing the area and the provision of information around the APS assets-
Finance team
The Finance team has a current headcount of 12 in London and has a global remit in respect of advising the business on structured transactions, such as securitisations- The team also covers 9 headcount in Singapore who are responsible for Statutory accounting for c50 SPV's and some RBSG month end accounting-
The team acts as a one stop shop to the DCM business for all finance related queries and issues, typical finance responsibilities include:
. Financial and Product control (Daily P&L and month end balance sheet substantiation) . Provision of accounting and regulatory advise to the Securitisation business on all transactions . Assisting front office with technical advice relating to client pitches- . Production and analysis of MI data in respect of business performance . Risk weighted asset/capital forecasting - of particular importance to the business is the impact of Basel 2- . Independent Price verification - including pricing on complex and illiquid products- . Frequent liaison with other business support areas in respect of legal, tax and credit issues- Requirements . Qualified ACCA/ACA/CIMA . Financial Institutions experience . Good Knowledge of IFRS, especially IAS 39 (Classification) . Strong PC skills- in particular Excel . Understanding of month end control processes, especially balance sheet substantiation- . Previous product control experience . Exposure to Structured Transactions and/or Loan products Responsibilities Role specific responsibilities
The individual will act as the primary point of contact within FIDCM for activities relating to the Government Asset Protection Scheme (APS) and will be responsible for the financial reporting of FI DCM assets within the APS scheme on a monthly basis- This role will involve assisting with initiatives surrounding the APS, such as: developing a monthly reporting process along with planning and driving through changes to the ledger hierarchy to support the ring-fencing of FI DCM APS assets in Finance systems- There will be significant liaison with relevant contacts in the business area and with Regional Finance teams-
The primary responsibilities for this role are:
1) Monthly APS reporting for the FIDCM business . Take responsibility for APS reporting for the FI DCM business . Assist in developing and refining monthly reporting processes for the APS scheme- . Interrogating systems and records to determine balances and/or static data values for APS assets within FIDCM . Reporting finance values to the Central APS Team on request . Undertaking reconciliations between monthly reports and providing commentary on movements
2) As the key APS representative for FIDCM, liaising with relevant contacts, including: . Attending daily / weekly meetings with the APS Central Team and other Finance representatives to discuss current APS deliverables, deadlines and issues . Liaison with key contacts in the business area regarding the APS scheme and FIDCM assets (e-g- movements and/or deal restructures) . Liaison with various contacts to confirm balances for APS assets and understand movements, including: o Regional Finance representatives in the UK, Netherlands, Asia, US, and European Network Countries- o Portfolio Managers for individual deals o Credit Risk
3) Preparation of month-end files . Prepare a month end APS finance file for FI DCM for review and sign-off by line management . Ensure all reported balances are fully substantiated and evidenced . Ensure that the file meets internal SOX standards
4) Ad hoc / project work, including: . Amending the ledger hierarchy to support the ring-fencing of FI DCM APS assets in Finance systems . Responding, from a Finance perspective, to ad hoc requests from the Central APS Team and/or HMT (via KPMG)
The individual will be required to quickly develop and maintain effective working relationships with the FI DCM Front Office and business management as well as other support areas such as Credit Risk, and other non-UK based Finance teams-
Additional work may include:
. Assisting with ad hoc issues and projects driven by Finance and Front Office management . Assisting in system development and testing as required
